During winter and early spring, when both scions and rootstocks are still dormant you may need to graft plants or trees in your garden, greenhouse or nursery. Grafting is a method of asexual plant propagation where the tissues of one plant are encouraged to fuse with those of another. This process is usually used for trees and shrubs that are grown commercially. Often one plant is selected for its roots, or rootstock, and the other is chose for its stems, leaves, flowers or fruits, known as the scion. In grafting a shoot of a selected cultivar will be grafted onto the stock of another type.
Grafting is a common nursery procedure and we offer specific tools you can use to make the grafting process easier. Browse our stock of grafting wax and grafting knives for accessories that will come in handy when you tend to your nursery, greenhouse or garden.
We carry a great selection of Trowbridge grafting wax in ½ pound, 1 pound and 10 pound sizes. Trowbridge grafting wax is the oldest and most used grafting was in the country. Grafting wax can be easily applied with a brush or simply the warmth of your hand. Grafting wax is used to safely seal all cut surfaces in the grafting process and keeps out water and prevents drying.
