How Our Garden Products Help People Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions

First of all, Happy New Year from your friends here at Frostproof Growers Supply! While a good deal of the country is having its coldest time of the year, that doesn’t mean that gardening isn’t at the forefront of their minds as they wait for spring. In fact, now is the time that many people are picking up their garden products and garden hand tools.

So with gardening season coming around, we thought we’d take a look at how our garden products can help people keep some of their New Year's resolutions.

Eat Healthier

If you have to eat from a grocery store, the healthiest fruits and vegetables aren’t typically those that you’ll find in the produce section. That produce is often picked too early so that it can “ripen” further during transport, which means it’s being robbed of vitamins and minerals it would normally get from the ground. The healthiest way to get your vegetables and fruits from a grocery is to purchase them frozen. That produce is picked when it’s ripe and frozen within 24 hours, meaning that it has already absorbed more nutrients.

But as healthy as frozen vegetables are, nothing beats the nutrition you’ll get from home-grown vegetables. When you pick your veggies and take them right to your kitchen, you’re not only getting something that tastes good, you’re also getting eating something that’s giving you the most nutrients possible. Not only that, but you know exactly what kind of pesticides and herbicides — if any — have been put into the soil and on the plants.

Spend More Time Outdoors

We’re living in the information age, and most people are cooped up inside all day. And even if they claim that they want to “get out and get some sunshine,” more often than not they’ll head home and stay inside binging a television show. That’s less likely to happen when someone has a garden, because gardens need to be tended!

Grabbing a garden hand tool and getting your hands dirty has many benefits to a person’s health. Sunlight helps the body make vitamin D, and the air outside is cleaner than the air indoors. Though gardening won’t get your heart rate up, it can help people stretch and get a little bit of exercise walking back and forth from the garage to the garden as they need the next garden product.

Protect the Skin

So under that last heading, we just told you about the benefits of getting sunlight. Unfortunately, too much sun can lead to skin cancer. After you have your 15 minutes of sunlight each day, make sure you put on one of our comfortable gardening hats so that you can protect your face from sun damage. We’ll leave the rest of the clothing up to you!

Learn a New Skill

Many New Year's resolutions start with “I want to learn how to…” For some people it’s knitting, and for others it might be to change the oil in their car. Luckily, there are many resolutions we can help with when it comes to gardening.

If your resolution is to improve the quality of the soil in your garden, one of the first steps is to get a pH tester. If it’s to finally figure out how grafting works, you’re going to need grafting supplies. Have you resolved to fight Mother Nature a bit and extend your growing season?
