Know It’s Coming With A Kestrel
A Kestrel pocket weather tracker is an excellent way to know what’s going on exactly where you are, even when you’re out in the field. Many of our customers live out away from a city, and meteorologist at the nearest television station might be giving weather reports for areas a hundred miles away. With a handheld weather meter you can learn to recognize the signs of snow and prepare your plants accordingly. What’s the best way to protect your plants from frost?
Frost Protection
Here at Frostproof, we get our name from the town in which we’re located: Frostproof, FL. But we’re not going to call ourselves Frostproof Growers Supply and not have frost protection, now are we?
Much of our frost protection is for nurseries or farms who have thousands of dollars of merchandise and plants that they just can’t afford to lose. These included row covers that can cover 1000 feet of plants, usually so that they’re protected in the spring from late frosts. But we also carry individual plant covers so that you don’t have to bring your favorite plants in from the deck too early; protect them from that first frost when the second frost might be weeks away.
But wait, what about tomatoes? Glad you asked. If you want to keep your tomato plants around and producing as far into fall as possible, consider these Dewitt frost covers that easily install over your plants and can be removed just as easily during the heat of the day. They come as small as 12-foot by 10-foot, but if you’re got a hug garden you can get one that’s 15-foot by 250 feet!
And Then Winter Is Here
When winter is here and your garden is dormant, it’s time to find out exactly how much precipitation you’re getting. That’s where this professional range gauge comes into play. It’s great for measuring rain, hail, and sleet, but it’s also an excellent way to get a good idea of how much snow you’ve received on your property.
